(cont. from Home)

Historically, we were known as the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf (GBSD), which is still the name of our center school on Mackworth Island in Falmouth. In 2005 we changed our name to reflect our statewide mission of serving all deaf and hard of hearing students throughout  Maine. Today, our Statewide Education Services Program provides outreach services to children who are deaf and hard of hearing  from York to Aroostook Counties. Statewide Education Services itself is divided into two subcategories: (1) The Early Childhood Family Services   Program (ECFS), which provides early intervention to Maine’s newborns, infants and young children with hearing loss in collaboration with Child Development Services (CDS) and (2) The Public School Outreach Program (PSO) which provides support, consultation and professional expertise to the home school of any child with a hearing loss.

Our professional staff is uniquely qualified to provide programs, services and support to Maine’s children who are deaf and hard of hearing, and their families. We also provide consultation services to an array of professionals, school districts and specialized programs that serve the deaf and hard of hearing. From the families of newborns, as young as two weeks old, to high school students as they prepare to transition to post secondary school or find a career path, we are committed to providing high quality programs and services. The delivery of these services are across the communication continuum serving children who utilize American Sign Language, Cued Speech, spoken language and every other communication modality.  Our satellite offices in Bangor and Caribou enable us to provide the same professional services to all counties in Maine.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our organization by reviewing our website. We encourage you to contact us at any time if you have any questions about our programs or services. I would be happy to respond to any questions you have that are specific to your child.
