This week, we completed our Fairytale Unit with our final story –

The Three Billy Goats Gruff!  As usual, the children were very involved with dramatic play, acting out the story.  We left materials in each developmental center to support understanding and play surrounding our ASL/English book of the week.  We planted grass for our goats, but unfortunately, it has not sprouted.  We will continue to check in on our grass next week!  We made cool troll and goat masks, goat headbands, play dough trolls, and practiced our AB patterning in the math center.  Today, during morning meeting, we took a poll to see which story the kids enjoyed most – The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears,  or The Three Billy Goats Gruff!  Check out our graph posted on our classroom door to see the results.

Next week, we are switching gears, and beginning our unit on Spring!  We are looking forward to reviewing the 4 Seasons, and learning about the different kinds of weather each season brings.  Our unit next week will fulfill the following Maine Early Childhood Guidelines: 1.  Math – Recognize some basic concepts of time and sequence. 2.  Science – Explore and experiment with different materials, objects, and situations.  3.  Creative Arts – Role Play people in own community; use props to enhance role playing and dramatic play.  Our vocabulary for next week is:  seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall), weather, rainy, windy, cloudy, sunny, stormy, foggy, snowy, thunder, lightening, rainbow, Seasonal temperatures.  Do not forget to check out the preschool blog for signed vocabulary to match each unit!
