Last week we started our new unit here at the Mackworth Island Preschool, “Wind & Water”. We are starting to explore the relationship between wind and water through observation, experiments, and books in our classrooms.
In the block area we practiced creating our own bridges, with water flowing underneath! Students looked at books in our classroom libraries for inspiration.
Students created sailboats and practiced moving them with wind at the water table.
Also at the water table, we experiment pouring water with cups and observed how the boats moved.
During story-time, we enjoyed two great books Gilberto and the Wind & One Dark Night. Be on the look out for videos of our weekly storybooks, in spoken English and ASL!
Lastly, students enjoyed pretending to be a weather reporter. This began about classroom discussions on weather. We will continue learning more about weather next week, specifically the impact that wind has. The Ocean room will focus on ASL facial expressions to describe weather.
