We’re well in to another colorful week at the Mackworth Island Preschool!
For our Morning Meeting this week the kids have the chance to practice ordering ice cream from each other. They are encouraged to pick a flavor, the amount of scoops they desire, whether or not they want to add sprinkles and if they want a cone or a dish. We have the kids practicing basic money skills by counting out the appropriate amount of coins to pay for their treat. They’re having a great time taking turns and have also moved this activity to the Play-Doh center, scooping out “ice cream” for their pals.
We’re revisiting a favored art activity this week, marble painting. We are having the kids focus on mixing primary colors to see what new colors they can create. The outcome has been quite lovely.
The kids have been enjoying themselves in the block and drama centers, continuing the laundry activity of sorting and “washing” clothes. Tomorrow we will add a clothesline with clothespins to hang-dry the laundry. They’ll have to work hard using their fine-motor skills to pinch open the pins as well as take great care not to pull the line down!
The kids will have opportunities this week to decorate the character Dog from Dog’s Colorful Day using a variety of different materials; water color paints on Monday, BINGO dabbers on Tuesday and Friday and cut circles of construction paper on Wednesday and Thursday. We’ve been drawing pictures upon request for the children to paint and the kids also have the chance to practice their writing skills in hand-made notebooks using colored pencils.
