What a week it has been! We introduced a new theme: Let’s Go to the Restaurant. During our morning meetings, we played the Cookie Jar game, where the children took turns to guess who had the cookie.
The centers were also packed with various activities centered around foods, such as our drama centers where the children pretended to be chefs and customers of a restaurant! The adorable chef hats were made during the art centers!
For our blocks center, we set up a “Cook Out” so the children could role play in a different food atmosphere. This was much more fun than expected!
During the writing centers, we have been focusing on taking orders by circling and writing items off our “menus” with dry erase markers. Today we asked the children about their favorite restaurants.
During the puzzles center, we have been playing memory games and comparing cookie sizes (small, medium, large). This also has been an excellent opportunity to talk about healthy vs. non-healthy foods! We also introduced the food pyramid to the kids today.
The sensory bin was also filled with different uncooked pasta items and pom-poms (meatballs), so the children could explore and play with different textures.
Last but not least, during snack time the children were given the opportunity to be their own chefs! On Wednesday we displayed how to make sun butter and jelly sandwiches, and then it was all hands-on for the kids! On Thursday we showed the children how to make another fun and healthy snack with tortilla wraps, sun butter, and banana slices. This probably was the best activity of all!
