GBSD is a member of the Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association (ESDAA) which is made up of 20 Deaf schools on the East Coast and is believed to be the oldest Deaf Athletic Association in the U.S.Soccer Team Pose
MECDHH competes in the New England Schools for the Deaf basketball and soccer tournaments (along with Rhode Island School for the Deaf [RISD], the Learning Center [TLC] in Framingham, MA, and the Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, VT). GBSD high school students are also eligible to participate in any and all activities offered through Portland High School [PHS] where they are enrolled. One GBSD student was a member of the top-ranked Portland High boys basketball team this year. Several other GBSD students are members of various clubs and organizations at PHS.
GBSD continues to be a member of the Maine Principals Association [MPA] although GBSD has not fielded any MPA sports teams in the last year, electing instead to play an independent schedule in basketball and soccer against other small schools in Maine.
