The mission of the G.B.S.D. Museum and Archives is to collect, preserve, and display items related to deafness, Deaf Culture, the education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons, the heritage of the deaf community, Mackworth Island and the Baxter family.
The museum holds memorabilia and historical objects, such as old communications, speech, and hearing technology, sports and dorm life objects, exhibits from Deaf artists and information on famous Deaf persons from Maine. With G.B.S.D. being the cultural center of Deafness in Maine, the objects in the museum cover a wide range of subjects from the past eighty years.
