It’s hard to believe that May 31st marks the official anniversary of my arrival at MECDHH. It has undoubtedly been the fastest year of my career and one that I have enjoyed the most. It’s hard to believe that May 31st marks the official anniversary of my arrival at MECDHH. It has undoubtedly been the fastest year of my career and one that I have enjoyed the most. To all of the people associated with the school board and the MECDHH community, I am genuinely grateful for the warm welcome and support received this past year.

This anniversary date is also significant because it marks the arrival of Rebecca Falbo as our newest administrator (Director of Mainstream and Deaf Education Programs). Also significant is the fact that Suzy Sargent, a few days earlier, agreed to accept the permanent position of Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director. The addition of these two critical staff members now completes the administrative team that we have been seeking.

This is a time to celebrate our seniors graduating from Portland High School, PATHS (Portland Arts and Technology High School), and high schools across Maine. On May 24th a wonderful evening was shared with over 60 staff, friends, and families to honor our graduates from GBSD/Portland High School programs as well as seniors serviced by our outreach staff. Each of the following students received certificates of completion, a MECDHH vest, and warm send-offs from faculty and staff.

The PATHS graduation took place on May 31st at Merrill Auditorium. The following seniors received recognition for a successful start on their chosen career paths:

Portland High School’s graduation ceremonies will occur on June 6th at Merrill Auditorium. The three graduates from PATHS will receive their high school diplomas on this evening. I regret not being able to attend as I will be in Austin, Texas for the National Deaf Center training with Terry Morrell.

There is a potential glitch in the rental property of Building C which will hopefully be resolved by the time of the board meeting. I will provide an update then.

During our meeting I will present the new housing proposal to the board. Plans are underway for an open house on June 14th from 3:30-5:00PM.

I’m excited to have the board present, during Executive Session, the recommendations from the Confidential Contract subcommittee.

I look forward to seeing everyone upon my return from Texas.
