We enjoyed our topic, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and the related activities in our developmental centers. We loved the masks and acted out the story in our dramatic play center, using a table, three chairs, three bowls with spoons, and a bed. We had fun counting numbers of bears, doing AB patterns on the bears and Goldilocks, making shapes of bears, measuring the sizes of bowls, and chairs, and discussing our favorite oatmeal on the chart. We also made bear crafts, and dressed our bears with different fabrics. We made a “Hard or Soft” collage. We measured three sizes of bears and then painted them. We read the story Goldilocks and The Three Bears by Paul Galdone and the children predicted events well.
Next week, we will continue our fairytale unit, as we introduce The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Through this unit, we are fulfilling certain Maine Early Childhood Guidelines such as:
- Mathematics: Demonstrates an increasing ability to count in sequence to 10 and beyond.
- Science: Knows that plants and animals need food, water, air and sun to survive.
- Approaches to Learning: Sets goals, develops, and completes tasks.
Our new vocabulary for next week will be: Three, goats, Billy Gruff ,troll, bridge, meadow, river, cross, under, horns, hooves, trampled, and gooble. It should be exciting and fun!
