Learning Language Through Daily Routines…Bathtime!

The book Baby Messy, Baby Clean, was a perfect choice for engaging the children this week.  There were many funny pictures of messy babies that the children (and their parents) could relate to.  There were few words in this book, but many many descriptive pictures.  We listened and watched the story, discussing all of the extra vocabulary.

There were many opportunities for the children to practice the language around bath time with their play.  We had conversations around the value of naming an item or word, but then also expanding it, to model using it properly in a phrase or sentence.

“Washcloth”… “We can put the soap on the washcloth”

“Its a duck”… “The duck is swimming in the water”
